AlertMe.com, www.alertme.com, Cambridge, U.K., has chosen Ember Corp., www.ember.com, Boston, Mass., to provide the wireless technology for its new intelligent home security service.
Using Ember’s ZigBee chips, network co-processors, and wireless mesh networking software, the company’s new offering, AlertMe, allows customers to monitor and control their home security system over the Internet or with their mobile devices.
In the event of a fire or burglary, the system sends an alert to homeowners. In addition, customers can also have AlertMe send warnings when smoke detectors or carbon monoxide alarms are triggered.
“What AlertMe really offers is peace of mind,” says Bob Gohn, vice president of marketing, Ember. “It’s a great example of how companies can innovate with ZigBee to make our homes, safe and secure without the expense, complexity and hassles of traditional security systems.”
Because most traditional system are based on a network of wired sensor, the installation process can be time consuming and labor intensive. To circumvent these challenges, Ember says, AlertMe’s sensors are all wireless, allowing for easy customer installation. According to press release, when customers purchase an AlertMe kit, they receive a compact hub that acts as a gateway to the Internet and enough wireless sensors to cover a typical. Moreover, as an added layer of security, the AlertMe hub comes equipped with a batter backup and GPRS modem so the system can remain online even in the event a power outage.
