Koofers pulls in $5 million in VC

Reston-based Koofers Inc. has raised $5 million in venture capital, the social learning company announced Wednesday.

Koofers provides college students with an array of course materials, professor reviews, historical grading data, textbook price comparison and other study tools.
The equity round came from existing backers — Reston-based New Atlantic Ventures and Altos Ventures in Menlo Park, Calif. — and new investors QED Investors and AOL-cofounder Steve Case’s Revolution LLC.

The two-year-old company plans to use the $5 million to ramp up product development and expand its content offering. Koofers has aggregated data from 400 schools — aided by its integration with Facebook.
Koofers’ CEO, Gio Hunt, is a former AOL executive.
